Patient Media

Dear Bill...

Do you propose doing a choice report (patch-up or corrective) or simply focusing only on the initial phase of care and not asking for their decision in the beginning?

My Response:

At the beginning of a new patient relationship, with a lifetime of symptom-treating, patients don’t “get” corrective care or maintenance care or anything beyond the relief of symptoms. If the patient has had an experience with chiropractic in the past, they may have a better appreciation of the distinctions. Otherwise, most patients will say corrective care because that’s the “right” answer. But their answer has little bearing on what they’ll actually do later when they’re feeling better.

Why even ask the question? Why do you need to know? What would you do differently? It’s non-information.

Explain the value of nonsymptomatic corrective-maintenance-preventive-wellness-supportive care, but attend to what the patient wants. Earn the right to present what they need.
