| I have always used your model of "patch" verses "fix" in my reports to allow the patient to make choices regarding their health. I have felt this has worked well, but my frustration is still the compliant patient with a life changing response that I thought "got it" and drops out after 12 to 15 visits.
My Response:
While the Patch or Fix model is a great metaphor and used extensively throughout the profession (we even have a poster and brochure about the concept!), most Chiropractors misuse it.
When patients, especially if it is there first time in a chiropractic setting, are given the choice "Do you want to just patch this or really fix it?" know that the "correct" answer is to fix their problem. So that's what they say. Doesn't mean they intend to fix it, but it's the correct answer. (Especially if they are waiting to receive the relief that prompted them to seek care in your office!).
I've often said at seminars that patients are like politicians. You can't trust what they say, only what they do. This is especially true in this situation. Even more so if this is their first or even second go 'round with chiropractic!
