Your customers are not spines, conditions or insurance carriers. Referring to them based on their symptoms, method of payment or subluxation pattern objectifies them in a way that pornography objectifies women.
It may be convenient to refer to them as "our newest headache patient," but it's a person who is merely exhibiting the symptoms called headache. Which of course is their body's gorgeous, creative, resourceful way of reacting to and accommodating physical, chemical or emotional stress.
It's convenient to see the world through the lens created by what we do. However, the most gifted service providers are those who are able to see the world through their customer's eyes.
This week resolve to look beyond a patient's particular ache or pain and consider it in the context of their life, hopes and dreams. The key is to focus on the person with the problem, not the problem in the person.
